Why do people still blindly trust the government?

I knew a teacher who was one of the first American soldiers to enter the Nazi death camps in WW2 and he advised his students to always question your government. He didn't say don't trust your government but he said question them let them know that you are watching them . The problem to-day is that too many people put their political party ahead of every thing else and ignore the wrong doings in their party while they point their finger at the other party.
