Is it right to base government on religion?

In my opinion, it is absolutely wrong to base government on religion, hence the concept of separation of church and state. We can all believe in our own ideas of God, Buddha, Allah or Mother Goose but our beliefs have no place in government. Republicans who support laws based on religion need to get over themselves or be voted out of office.
