Driving an Ex Police Cruiser for Security Purposes.?

I currently work as a security officer and I wanted to buy a Ford Crown Vic. From my understanding I could drive one provided all the decals,lights equipment ect were removed. My employer told me it was illegal for me to own a crown vic and use it to go to work. Is this true? I live in Ontario, Canada.
